Getting Around Berlin

Berlin has one of Europe's best public transport networks, making it easy to explore every corner of the city. Here's everything you need to know to get around comfortably and affordably.

  • BVG — U-Bahn & S-Bahn

    Public Transport

Berlin's underground (U-Bahn) and suburban rail (S-Bahn) networks cover the entire city with frequent services from around 4:00 to 01:00, with night lines on weekends. A single ticket (Einzelfahrschein) costs €3.50; a day ticket (Tageskarte) is €10.00.

  • Trams (Straßenbahn)

    Public Transport

Trams run primarily in the eastern districts and are the best way to explore Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain, and Mitte without the U-Bahn. Covered by the same BVG ticket.

  • Cycling

    Active

Berlin is extremely bike-friendly with dedicated cycle lanes on most major roads. Nextbike and Lidl-Bike offer affordable hourly rentals citywide. A day's cycling is one of the best ways to explore the city.

  • Berlin Welcome Card

    Travel Pass

Unlimited public transport travel plus discounts at over 200 museums and attractions for 48, 72, or 96 hours. Available at airports, train stations, and the BVG website.

  • Taxi & Ride-Sharing

    Taxi

Taxis are widely available and reasonably priced. FREENOW (myTaxi) and Uber operate in Berlin. For short city trips, these are a convenient supplement to public transport.

  • Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)

    Airport

The airport is connected to central Berlin via the Airport Express (FEX) in around 30 minutes, and by S9/S45 S-Bahn lines. Trains depart every 15–30 minutes.
